    What's the event about?

Watch a 3 minute video about this workshop here

Equality, Diversity and British values continues to feature highly in the April 2018 inspection handbook update. Staff are expected to challenge all forms of prejudice and discrimination, value the diversity of learners' experience and provide learners with a 'comprehensive understanding of people and communities beyond their immediate experience'.

To achieve outstanding, Ofsted expect organisations to fully inegrate equality and diversity in all practice and to place the promotion of British values 'at the heart' of what they do. But how do you promote British values in maths, science, construction or engineering? What about workplace learning where learners spend all of their time in the place of employment? How can we support staff to gain the knowledge and confidence to discuss topical, sensitive and controversial topics, making use of what is going on the world? What about business support staff - what does it mean for them to actively promote British values?

Fully integrating and promoting equality, diversity and British values is an essential part of your jurney to outstanding and behond - to be the 'best of the best'. Outstanding practice in Equality, Diversity and British Values in WorkPlace Learning

    What's the event about?

For many providers, apprenticeships is a growth area, yet they often ‘behind’ in integrating and promoting E&D and British values when comparing workplace to classroom-based learning.

This workshop focuses specifically on workplace learning. It explores all areas of the learner journey, for example IAG, sign up (enrolment), induction, performance analysis, assessment visits and progress reviews. It explains how assessors and other staff involved in workplace learning can genuinely raise awareness and promote E&D and British values, rather than take a tokenistic or ‘tick-box’ approach.

Understanding Ofsted - Prevent and British Values workshop

    What's the event about?

Prevent and British values continues to feature highly in the April 2018 update to the inspection framework. However, colleges are still grappling with how to positively and robustly implement these requirements and how to actively evaluate the impact of their actions. For example:

    • How are teaching staff in different curriculum teams contributing to the Prevent Duty by actively promoting British values? How might this be relevant is all subject areas including, for example, maths, science and construction?
    • How are we supporting staff to take risks?
    • Are there barriers to referring vulnerable students, for example a fear that referral might lead to criminalizing a student?
    • How are you measuring the impact of staff and student training on Prevent and British values?

This workshop capitalizes on the expertise of Christine Rose, a specialist in equality, diversity and inclusion in the sector, and Rick Warrington, a servicing counter terrorism intelligence officer.
