    Eliminating unconscious bias and discrimination in HR practice in FE

    What's the event about?

    This is a one day workshop exploring how to eliminate unconscious bias and how to promote diversity within staff in colleges. The workshop is being delivered by Lucy McLynn, a partner and solicitor at Bates Wells Braithwaite. I am a key note speaker in the morning session.

    During the day you will:

    • Deepen understanding of how unconscious bias arises and can be prevented
    • Explore the impact of unconscious bias on the student experience and the practical implications for HR staff
    • Consider sector findings on the impact of staff diversity role models on students
    • Identify steps that can be taken to improve staff diversity
    • Update knowledge of developments in discrimination law, including indirect discrimination, dress codes and reasonable adjustments
    • Develop approaches to handling discrimination complaints

    Outstanding practice in actively promoting British Values, taking a whole-organisational approach

    What's the event about?

    To achieve ‘outstanding’, Ofsted expect organisations to place the promotion of British values ‘at the heart’ of all that they do; to take a 'whole-organisational approach'. Fully integrating and promoting equality, diversity and British values is an essential part of your journey to outstanding and beyond – to be the ‘best of the best’. This event will share best practice in the sector, provide practical tools to engage and empower learners and enrich the learning experice and help you to improve your inspection outcomes.

    You will:  

    • Understand Ofsted expectations, appreciating context, issues, opportunities and the need for a whole-college approach
    • examine the practice of outstanding providers
    • explore what it means to fully integrate and promote fundamental British within the learner journey, including induction, tutorials, classroom practice, workplace learning and learner voice
    • understand how to sensitively yet positively promote British values, to engage and empower learners and enrich the learning experience.
