Spotlight on training

Did you know that one in five learners aged between 16 and 25 will have a mental health difficulty? Are non-teaching staff such as reception, security and student services staff clear on how best to support these learners, and are they equipped to deal with issues including those with safeguarding implications? Do tutors know how to provide effective support? Do all staff understand that effectively supporting these learners is an integral part of robust safeguarding procedures?

Just as steps in a building are barriers that need to be dismantled for learners who are wheelchair users, there are a number of common psychological barriers that need to be dismantled for learners with mental health difficulties into learning, and while learning. But do your teaching and non-teaching staff know how to do this?

Are tutors and learning support assistants aware of the practical strategies to ensure sensitive, responsive and effective support both in and outside of the classroom? Do tutors know how to personalise their teaching and learning to ensure learners with mental health difficulties are successful? How does all this link in with embedding E&D in the curriculum? Are non-teaching staff on the ‘front-line’, such as those in reception, security, IAG and student services, confident to support these learners, and equipped to deal with issues including those with safeguarding implications?

Do all staff understand that supporting learners with mental health difficulties is an integral part of robust safeguarding procedures?

Supporting learners with mental health difficulties is one of my most popular training courses. You can download publicity about this training event using the links below
